Tonight I’m preparing for Home Team at my house. Our group is one of the four small groups that meet during the week. Over the fall semester of Home Teams, all of the groups are basing their discussion around the subject introduced by the Sunday message. Since I was preaching about Jehovah Shammah this week, our group will be talking about it tonight.
How fitting it is for us to talk about Jehovah Shammah in group. Jehovah Shammah means “The Lord who is there.” As a group, it matters who is there. If “being there” didn’t matter to anyone, we wouldn’t get very far as a group, would we? For instance, I don’t want Gordon to just phone in a quick hello on group night…I want him to be there and be the awesome guy that he always is.
If “being there” makes all the difference with human relationships, then it is even more a part of the relationship between you and a loving God who is ever-present. God is there in good and bad both. He’s with you when you’re doing great and when you fail miserably. God is there, and you can count on Him.
Thank you Jehovah Shammah for being there for me! In the New Testament, Jesus also made a promise about being there, “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
I hope that tonight’s Home Team is terriffic, and don’t worry Gordon will be there as always! If you’re interested in being a part of a Home Team at Team Church, you’ll have an opportunity to join up for the next semester beginning the first of the year.
